Graduation ceremonies were held for 26 students in three programs at the Great Plains College Kindersley Campus on Thursday, May 20th. Students who have successfully completed Office Education, 4th Class Power Engineering and Basic Education programs celebrated with friends, family and invited guests at the graduation ceremony which took place at St. Paul’s United Church auditorium in Kindersley.
”This ceremony brings to an end this year’s studies for the graduates and while I am very pleased and proud of all the graduates, in particular, I want to honor the fact that these students took the leap and started their education.” said Willi McCorriston, Director of Energy Training Centre, for Great Plains College. Great Plains College awarded $150,000 of scholarships to students this year, including $1,500 to Malory Wright at the Kindersley campus.
Students receiving Office Education certificates were: Jessi Faubert, Lise Gauthier, Teresa Sivertson, Cheryl Fisher and Stephanie McKee. Graduates of the Office Education program are prepared for employment as administrative assistants, administrative support staff or receptionists in fields such as government, education, law, medicine, engineering, manufacturing, travel, insurance, banking and business.
Students receiving 4th Class Power Engineering certificates were: Dion Desjarlais, David Pumfrey, Malory Wright, Theodore Bear, Jeff Brown, Steven Czychowski, James Elliott, Andrew Gatin, Rebecca Geddes, Bobby McLean, Robb McLean, Telford Ransome, Ian Rhodes, Lana Twin and Ryan Welter. The 4th Class Power Engineering students acquire practical training in boiler operations, maintenance techniques and tool usage.
Students receiving Basic Education certificates were: Carleen Smyke, Candice Wiebe, Shandi Walls, Stuart Cormack, Darcy Lancaster, and GED students Thomas Beach and Tammie Hobbs.
“As alumni of Great Plains College, you are now prepared to take your new abilities out in to the world and apply them to see what you can make possible,” said Willi McCorriston, in her closing remarks. “The fact that you have started, persisted, and now completed your chosen field of study says you have all the basic ingredients for success.”
