WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Receive the training required to write the exam to become a licensed practical nurse in Saskatchewan. Practical and applied training includes curative, rehabilitative and supportive care, pharmacology, caring for those with acute and chronic health challenges, caring for childbearing families and children, health promotion and illness prevention.
At Swift Current Campus, the Practical Nursing program starts every September. At Biggar Program Centre the Practical Nursing Program starts in February (biennial). This program is full-time.
- Grade 12 with a minimum overall average of 65% in the following five subjects: English Language Arts A30; English Language Arts B30; one of Foundations of Math 30, Workplace and Apprenticeship Math 30 or Pre-Calculus 30; one of Biology 30, Chemistry 30, or Physics 30; and one of Social Studies 30, History 30, or Native Studies 30
- Up-to-date immunization record*
- Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks*
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR Health Care Provider ‘C’ AED or equivalent*
- English language requirement
- Transferring, Lifting and Repositioning (TLR) certification*

As a graduate, you may find employment in medical, surgical, maternal/child or pediatric units at acute care hospitals, rehabilitation or palliative care units, medical centres, or community, home care and extended care facilities.
The average salary for a licensed practical nurse in Saskatchewan was $68,370, based on a 40-hour work week, according to the provincial government’s 2013 Saskatchewan Wage Survey.
Demand for health care workers will continue to rise as Saskatchewan’s population ages in the coming years.
Apply before April 30 for the Swift Current program, or before October 31 for the Biggar program and you may be eligible for a $500 Entrance Scholarship.
If you are in Grade 11 and have at least a 70% average, apply before June 30 and you may be eligible for a $1,000 Early Entrance Award.
