GUIDELINES

The following is a list of guidelines to consider when providing accommodations. It is the responsibility of the property owner and renter to negotiate the rental terms and fair compensation (if applicable). The University of Saskatchewan and Great Plains College are happy to play a role in facilitating this service for U of S students, but assume no responsibility.

• Accommodations may include meals, but it is not a requirement.

a. Living accommodations that include the provision of meals are not covered by the Residential Tenancies Regulations.
b. If meals are not provided as part of the accommodations, the alumni and students will be subject to the landlord and tenants regulations.
c. When the length of stay is beyond a term (four months), the parties are encouraged to sign a tenancy agreement.

• A reasonable rate (approximately $20 per day) may be charged depending on the meal arrangements and other amenities provided.

a. Factors may include shared or private amenities, size of room, cable TV, internet access, etc.
b. Damage or security deposits will typically be waived.

• Other considerations:

a. Telephone, keys and other charges
b. Individual and shared accommodations (with another student, family member, guests, partner or spouse)
c. Pets (allowed or not)
d. Food or pet allergies
e. Smoking on or near the premises
f. Damages incurred and incidental charges
g. Parking (on premises or street parking restrictions)
h. Tenant and home insurance exclusions
