Thinking about university but not quite ready to leave your friends and family, or get lost in the crowd and share classrooms with 200 people? You can take your first year (and sometimes more) of almost any university program right here at Great Plains College. Many courses are offered face-to-face (with under 35 people per class), while others are live streamed or delivered online.
When you are selecting courses, you are encouraged to consult with a student adviser at Great Plains College. You are responsible for registering for the appropriate courses.
All face-to-face classes take place at the Swift Current Campus and are subject to change. Please view the course listing for sample course options.
Online and live streamed classes are also available in Swift Current.
University of Regina L.I.V.E classes that may be included in the Fall and Winter semesters are:
- Indigenous Health Studies
- Justice Studies
- Introductory Psychology
- Social Work
- Women and Gender Studies
University of Saskatchewan LIVE streamed classes that may be included in the Fall and Winter semesters are:
- Native Studies
- Political Science
Please note you must apply to your university of choice as well as Great Plains College.
Contact a Great Plains College student adviser. They will work with you to apply to the University of Regina or University of Saskatchewan and select the appropriate course load.
Academic advising is designed to help you understand your academic options and to build the degree program tailored to your particular interests and goals. The student advisers at Great Plains College can provide advice based on the information available at the time of the session. The final decision to register in classes is your responsibility. You must register for the appropriate course sections in order to take University programming at Great Plains College.
University courses at Great Plains College enable you to:
- Begin a degree in Arts and Science, Education, Police Studies
or Justice Studies
- Enrol in various pre-professional programs
- Enrol in courses to transfer to Business or Kinesiology
- Transfer credits between the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan or to other post-secondary institutions (transferability of courses should always be confirmed prior to registration)
- Complete degrees in Social Work and Registered Nursing right at Swift Current Campus
Take your first year of university through Great Plains College and you’ll be eligible for scholarships from your university of study as well as from Great Plains College. Students must be taking a full-time course load that is student loan-eligible to qualify for scholarship consideration at Great Plains College.
Apply as a full-time student before April 30, you may be eligible for a $500 – $5,000 Entrance Scholarship. Apply before June 30, if you are in Grade 11 and have a 70% average, you are eligible for a $1,000 Early Entrance Award.
