This program for newcomers will focus on employment readiness and language development skills for the workplace. This includes resume, cover letter and interview skills, courses and certifications for employment, cultural values for the workplace, guided work placement opportunities and general language acquisition skills.

Swift Current
September 19, 2022-February 16, 2023
Classes are scheduled from 9 AM -12 NOON, Tuesday to Thursday each week.
Each week includes 12 hours of morning class time and 3 hours (2 x 1.5 hour sessions) of additional language training available in the afternoon for a total 15 hours.
What You Will Learn
Build the confidence to take the next step in your career or education journey through the Essential Skills for Newcomers program. The program will focus on:
- Employment readiness skills: resume, cover letter and interview skills, courses and certifications (such as Safe Food Handling and First Aid), cultural values in the workplace and work placement opportunities.
- Language skill development: general language acquisition skills in all areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing), as well as vocabulary and conversations related directly to the workforce.
Other Information
These are secondary programs and are not eligible for student loans consideration or Great Plains College scholarships. Childcare funding is available for eligible students.
