This program for newcomers will focus on employment readiness and language development skills for the workplace. This includes resume, cover letter and interview skills, courses and certifications for employment, cultural values for the workplace, work placement opportunities and general language acquisition skills.
- Must be a permanent resident of Saskatchewan
- Candidates should have an overall CLB 5 score
This program runs from 9AM-3PM, Monday to Thursday each week.
What You Will Learn
Build the confidence to take the next step in your career or education journey through the Essential Skills for Newcomers program. The program will focus on:
- Employment readiness skills: resume, cover letter and interview skills, courses and certifications (such as Safe Food Handling and First Aid), cultural values in the workplace and work placement opportunities.
- Language skill development: general language acquisition skills in all areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing), as well as vocabulary and conversations related directly to the workforce.
These are secondary programs and are not eligible for student loans consideration or Great Plains College scholarships, however full-time students may qualify for assistance through the Provincial Training Allowance. More information can be found at economy.sk.ca/PTA.
