BIGGAR: Biggar Community Health Care Inc. has generously donated a new Intravenous (IV) pump to the Great Plains College Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program in Biggar – a donation worth $5,000.
“IV pumps are a critical piece of equipment in health care that are used by nurses every single day,” Cindy Keith, program coordinator at Great Plains College said. “Having a new IV pump for our students to practice and learn on means they will be better prepared to enter the workforce and provide the highest level of care for their future patients.”
Prior to this donation, the Biggar LPN program students were dependent on sharing an IV pump with the Swift Current program. Students will now have unlimited access to the newest version of this IV pump, which is the same model as the new IV pumps that will be purchased for the Heartland Health Region.
“As an organization we believe it is important to support programs that ensure highly skilled and caring health care professionals,” said Jim Kerr, Director and Chair of Biggar Community Health Care Inc. “We are pleased to make this donation to the LPN program thus helping them celebrate their 10th anniversary of ‘pumping’ out exceptionally trained LPN grads.”
“We couldn’t be more thankful for this incredible donation from Biggar Community Health Care Inc.,” Colleen Ostoforoff, senior consultant, college advancement added. “It enables us to continue enhancing our program and giving our students the best possible education before beginning their careers as licensed practical nurses.”
The IV pump is now set up and ready for use at the student’s lab in the Biggar Union Hospital.
