SWIFT CURRENT: From fire pits and art work to a planter, a patio table set and a Riders beer cart, twelve custom metal art pieces were auctioned at the fourth annual Carhartts and Caviar Welding Showcase and Auction presented by Acklands-Grainger.
The sold out event attracted nearly 300 people and raised an all-time high of $19,458 for the college’s welding program and scholarships.
“We have a ton of fun putting this event together every year,” welding instructor Jared McKenzie said. “From building all of the auction pieces to watching the students auction their items – it really is a great way for them to showcase their work, meet some local employers, and continue enhancing the program for the class of welders.”
The top earning piece of the evening was the Kitchen Dining Table, selling for $2,400.
“Support from the community and local businesses never ceases to amaze,” McKenzie added. “Thanks to the generosity of all of our attendees, sponsors and bidders, we will be able to continue growing our welding program, and providing more scholarships for future welding students.”
To make the most of event’s proceeds, the funds raised will go toward the Great Plains College scholarship program and will be matched by the provincial government’s Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Fund.
