Great Plains College announces new Practical Nursing program in Warman

Thursday, September 10, 2026

WARMAN, SK – Great Plains College is pleased to announce the addition of the Practical Nursing program to its Warman Campus program offerings. This full-time diploma program is set to start in October 2027 and applications will open September 15, 2026.

“Licensed practical nurses are a vital part of the healthcare system and we know that there is a shortage of trained staff in many communities across Saskatchewan including in Martensville and Warman” said Keleah Ostrander, interim president and ceo at Great Plains College. “We’re excited to grow our healthcare program offerings in Warman to help train more students for a rewarding and in-demand career in nursing.”

The 2-year program is delivered through a combination of hands-on classroom learning and practicums where students will receive clinical experience in a variety of settings from pharmacology and acute care to obstetrics and long-term care. Clinical experiences will take place throughout the greater Saskatoon region. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to write the exam to become a licensed practical nurse in Saskatchewan.

While the program won’t see students on campus until fall 2027, plans are already underway to develop a lab space at Warman campus for healthcare programs. More details will be released soon on how local organizations and businesses can contribute to the development of the healthcare lab.

“On behalf of the City of Warman, we are thrilled to welcome Great Plains College’s Practical Nursing program to our community,” said City of Warman Mayor Gary Philipchuk. “As Warman and the surrounding region continue to grow, expanding local post-secondary training is vital to building a strong, resilient healthcare workforce. This program creates incredible opportunities for local students while directly supporting the long-term healthcare needs of our residents.”

Anyone interested in applying to the Warman Practical Nursing program can contact Ryan Spence, student adviser, at @email or 306-242-5377.
