Swift Current, SK – Great Plains College is pleased to announce that the much-anticipated new student residence in Swift Current is officially open and has welcomed the first student tenants into the facility. The residence, located on Sidney Street East, was acquired by the college in 2024 and has since been fully renovated to create a modern, dedicated student housing space.
The furnished 12-bedroom facility features shared kitchen, living, and study spaces as well as an outdoor deck. The location is a short distance to our college campus and being located in the city’s downtown core, is also close to key community services and amenities.
“We are pleased that the completion of our extensive renovations has created an accessible and affordable housing option that was made available to our incoming students this fall,” stated Keleah Ostrander, interim president and CEO at Great Plains College. “We are thrilled that our first tenants have moved in and the early feedback we have received is overwhelmingly positive.”
A grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with tours of the student residence, took place on September 28, 2026 to celebrate the milestone. Contributors to the project were recognized including Innovation Federal Credit Union who was the initial donor with a $25,000 contribution through its Legacy Community Development Grant.
“Capital projects of this size require vast support from partners in order to move from concept to reality. We are fortunate to have long-standing and committed partnerships throughout the communities we serve. The contribution of Innovation Federal Credit Union and many others reflect the community’s belief in our students and their future,” added Ostrander. “We couldn’t be more grateful to all that have contributed time, expertise, and financial resources to this important legacy project.”
Students lease their fully furnished space in the student residence for the duration of their program.
