SWIFT CURRENT, SK – Great Plains College is pleased to announce the 14th annual Carhartts & Caviar Welding Showcase and Auction presented by Western Canada Welding Products Ltd. will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The college’s Welding certificate students, alumni, their instructor and local businesses are working hard to create 9 custom pieces for the live auction at the March 5 event.
“Preparing for this event has truly become a highlight of the Welding program. Our students get to put their skills into practice as they collaborate in teams to design and build one-of-a-kind auction pieces through what we call our ‘Junk Yard Wars’ challenge,” said Jared McKenzie, Welding instructor. “Watching their creativity and teamwork in action is always a rewarding experience, we’re excited to showcase their work at the event in March.”
In addition to the Junkyard Wars pieces created by students, a custom Saskatchewan Roughriders fire pit, a dining set, and a Swift Current Broncos wall art piece will be among the 9 pieces available for bidding at the live auction.
Early bird tickets purchased from January 26-February 16 are $60 and can be purchased at the college or by contacting @email or calling 306-773-1531. Any remaining tickets after February 16 will be $70.
“The Carhartts and Caviar event continues to be one of the standout moments in our academic year, bringing our community together to celebrate student success while raising vital support for current and future GPC students,” said Brad Mahon, president & CEO of Great Plains College. “We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed over the years. Together, you’ve helped raise more than $250,000 for our scholarship fund and Welding program, supporting equipment upgrades including a new welder, a milling machine and enhancements to our plasma cutter.”
This event wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the community and the many event sponsors, including the presenting sponsor Western Canada Welding Products Ltd. and hospitality sponsor, City of Swift Current.
