KINDERSLEY, SK – Great Plains College is proud to officially open its new healthcare lab, sponsored by Kindersley & District Co-op, marking a major milestone in healthcare education for the region. The lab, supported through a generous $25,000 naming rights sponsorship from Kindersley & District Co-op, will serve as a vital training space for students in the college’s new Practical Nursing program, along with the Continuing Care Assistant program.
The lab is now fully operational and will support hands-on learning for the inaugural cohort of 14 Practical Nursing students, who began their two-year diploma program this fall. In addition, 24 CCA students are also accessing the space to develop essential skills that will prepare them for careers in healthcare.
“This is a proud moment for the college and the community,” said Brad Mahon, president & CEO of Great Plains College. “The opening of the GPC Healthcare Lab, sponsored by Kindersley & District Co-op, represents the culmination of months of program planning and recruitment, lab construction, and collaboration with our partners. We’re thrilled to see the space come to life and to welcome nearly 40 students who will go on to serve the healthcare needs of the region.”
The lab features equipment and simulation tools that allow students to practice real-life scenarios in a safe and supportive environment. It is a key component in delivering high-quality healthcare education and ensuring graduates are well prepared to entre the workforce.
“At Kindersley & District Co-op, we believe in investing in the future of our communities,” said Blair Ferner, general manager of the Kindersley & District Co-op. “Seeing this lab come to life and eager new students in the building is very rewarding. This partnership is about more than a sponsorship – it’s about supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals who will care for our families, friends and neighbours.”
The lab’s grand opening took place September 23, bringing together students, staff, and community partners to celebrate the completion of this important project and the beginning of a new chapter in healthcare training at Great Plains College.
