Great Plains College awards scholarships to more than 130 students this fall

Monday, October 2, 2017

Great Plains College is pleased to announce approximately $143,000 in Entrance Scholarships will be awarded to more than 130 deserving students starting their 2017-18 academic year this fall.

The college boasts one of the most competitive scholarship programs among regional colleges in the province. Since 2009, more than $2 million has been distributed to students enrolled in full-time student loan-eligible programs.

“Our scholarship recipients have worked hard to excel academically and we are thrilled to award each of these deserving students with Entrance Scholarships and awards to help ease the cost of their continued education,” said Carrie Voysey, Great Plains College Director of Communications and Development.

The following scholarships and awards will be presented at the college’s upcoming scholarship receptions in October and November:

  • Adult Basic Education External Awards - $2,000
  • Biggar Entrance Scholarships - $7,000
  • Kindersley Entrance Scholarships - $3,500
  • Rosetown Entrance Scholarships - $2,500
  • SunDogs Athletics Scholarships - $4,000
  • Swift Current Entrance Scholarships - $88,500
  • Warman Entrance Scholarships - $19,000

An additional projected amount of $46,500 will also be distributed to students starting programs in the winter semester. Winter semester Entrance Scholarships are still available for university, administrative assistant and electrician (Swift Current) programs, and the Certificate in Health, Safety and Environmental Processes. The deadline to apply is October 31.

“We cannot thank our donors enough. Their generosity is what allows the college to offer such a great scholarship program and truly makes a difference in the lives of each of these students. We look forward to recognizing their support at our upcoming receptions,” expressed Voysey.

Thanks to new partnerships, Great Plains College was able to add two new external awards to its offering for the 2017-18 academic year. The Living Sky Casino Indigenous Adult Basic Education Persistence Award will be presented to individuals in the Indigenous community who have demonstrated persistence and dedication in pursuing further education in the Grade 12/Upgrading or Pre-12 programs. The second award, the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Indigenous Economic Development Scholarship, will be awarded to a student who is a leader in the Indigenous community enrolled in the Master of Business Administration in Community Economic Development. Applications are still being accepted for this scholarship; the deadline to apply is October 31.
