MAPLE CREEK, SK – Great Plains College is pleased to announce the launch of a new full-time Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) certificate program in Maple Creek, beginning August 26, 2026. This will be the first time the College has offered the CCA program in Maple Creek, providing a local pathway for students to train for an in-demand career in healthcare.
The full-time, one-year certificate program will run from August through May 2027 and is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, hands-on skills and clinical experience required to work as Continuing Care Assistants in a variety of healthcare settings.
“This new program gives students in Maple Creek and the surrounding area the opportunity to train locally for a rewarding career that is in high demand across Saskatchewan,” said Keleah Ostrander, vice president, programs and students at Great Plains College. “By delivering the program close to home, we’re helping to reduce barriers to post-secondary education while supporting the long-term healthcare workforce in rural communities.”
All in-class learning will be delivered through synchronous instruction from the Swift Current Campus, supported by a facilitator in the Maple Creek classroom. Students will complete all hands-on labs locally at the Southwest Integrated Healthcare Facility, and all clinical placements will take place in Maple Creek.
Continuing Care Assistants play a critical role in the healthcare system, providing compassionate care to elderly clients and individuals of all ages in long-term care, personal care homes and community-based settings. Graduates of the program will be well prepared to enter the workforce immediately upon completion.
Students who apply to the Maple Creek CCA program before June 15 will be automatically considered for a Great Plains College Entrance Scholarship from $500-$3,000.
