Course Description

This 1-day ATV/UTV course provides the training required for operating an ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) or UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) for work purposes, with the exception of farming operations. 

The course covers legal responsibilities and obligations for employers, contractors and workers operating or supervising the operation of ATVs and UTVs for work.

  • Legal responsibilities and obligations for operating or supervising ATVs and UTVs in the workplace 
  • Required PPE, equipment and documents 
  • Safe loading and unloading procedures 
  • Proper tie-down equipment procedures 
  • Pre-trip inspections 
  • Hazard and Risk Assessment 
  • Vehicle maintenance and fire prevention 
  • First Aid preparedness 
  • Emergency maneuvers 
  • Weight distribution 
  • Obstacle navigation 
  • Traversing hills 
  • Braking and gear selection 

Requirements

  • Students must provide their own ATV or UTV in good working condition for the practical training 
  • Students must wear a helmet and goggles, coveralls or long pants and a long-sleeve shirt, gloves and boots that come up past the ankle 
  • Students must achieve 60% or higher on the written exam 

Certification

  • Students who successfully complete the written and practical assessments earn Operator Certification for the specific type of vehicle, ATV or UTV, used during their practical assessment
  • Students who do not demonstrate the required theory and/or operational competency earn a Trainee Certificate
