Great Plains College announces new February intake for the Electrician program

Friday, September 18, 2026

SWIFT CURRENT, SK – Great Plains College is pleased to announce a new February 2027 intake for its Electrician program. This full-time, 18-week applied certificate program will provide students with entry-level skills training to begin building a foundation for a career in the electrical trade.

“At Great Plains College, we strive to offer programs that respond to the needs of our communities and provide students with skills they need to enter the workforce,” said Keleah Ostrander, Interim President and CEO at Great Plains College. “Skilled trades are an important part of our regional workforce, and providing opportunities for students to gain hands-on, industry-relevant training is an important part of meeting that need. This new February intake gives students another opportunity to get started in the electrical trade and build the skills needed to take the next step in their careers.”

The 18-week program provides entry-level training in electrical installations and maintenance. Students will learn how to make electrical installations and perform maintenance duties according to industry standards, while developing practical skills and knowledge for the electrical industry.

“Student demand for trades programming is healthy with a full electrical cohort in progress this fall,” added Ostrander. “We are pleased to be able to respond to both student and industry demand through announcing this additional electrical intake. We look forward to welcoming a new group of students to the program in February.”

Applications for the February 2027 intake are now open. Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to do so quickly as the program will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
