Course Description

Making driving decisions to avoid collisions in spite of the actions of others and conditions around you is the foundational principle of Defensive Driving.

In this 5-hour course participants will learn and review techniques of Defensive Driving to give themselves a better understanding of the responsibility that comes with driving and sharing the road with others and how to apply them each time they are behind the wheel.

Course Overview:

  1. What is a collision
  2. Before you drive
  3. Basic information & rules of the road
  4. The six basic driving conditions 
  5. Sharing the road
  6. Concept of gates
  7. Right of ways
  8. Speed
  9. Basic driving skills
  10. Time:  The key to judgment
  11. Proper eye use
  12. Braking
  13. Steering
  14. Reversing
  15. Design components for safety
  16. Emergency driving

Students who successfully complete this course and pass the 25-question written exam will earn their Defensive Driving certification.

This course can be provided in person in a traditional classroom setting; OR through live, instructor-facilitated distance education.

This course can be provided on its own or in conjunction with a 1-hour in-car driving assessment.

Custom rates will apply for groups dependent upon number of participants, training location, and program needs.

This course is now facilitated by our very own SGI Driver Educator and former Driver Examiner, Bill Martens, who also instructs our Class 1A MELT theory course.

We regularly work with businesses and communities to provide customized training opportunities.
