Class 1 Truck Driver Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) program (theory only)

Great Plains College offers the theory portion for the Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) program legislated by SGI via distance learning. The distance learning option provides the same curriculum standard that is available for students attending the in-classroom theory training. The course is instructor-led by an experienced, approved, SGI instructor/trainer examiner and is delivered via Zoom over 8 days (47 hours). Course dates can be negotiated to suit organizations that book a private course for their employees.

Hazardous Atmosphere Detection & Control

This one-day course is designed for those working in the oil and gas industry who encounter atmospheric hazards in the workplace, such as oxygen deficiency/enrichment, flammable substances, and/or toxic gases and vapors, typically through the direct handling of such substances or when workers are exposed when the substances are released into the workplace from equipment or processes being used.

Crucial Conversations

Crucial Conversations is a two-day course that teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics. By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same) you'll surface the best ideas, make the highest quality decision and then act on your decisions with unity and commitment.

Great Plains College has partnered with Opening Minds to offer the Mental Health First Aid Standard course. Opening Minds is a not-for-profit organization whose focus is on providing training and knowledge to talk about mental health and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness.

Opening Minds was created by the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) and is leading the effort to eradicate stigma associated with mental health.

CSO - Common Safety Orientation (ESC)

CSO (Common Safety Orientation) is a two-hour online course from Energy Safety Canada.  It is the standard general safety orientation for all workers in the Oil and Gas industry.  As an Authorized Training Provider through Energy Safety Canada we are offering the use of our facility's computer lab for students to take the course.  Our computer lab is a professional learning environment that has been approved as meeting the technical requirements of this course.

Workplace Fall Protection

The course covers legislation, safety measures and best practices. It includes the selection and safe use of fall prevention, work positioning and fall arrest systems. It additionally includes fall hazard identification, fall protection planning and discussion on fall effects and fall rescue. Participants will engage in hands-on training. Participants must pass both a written and a practical-skills exam to obtain a certificate of successful course completion. As part of the practical exam, each participant will be briefly suspended in a harness.

Personal Care 2

Building on the skills you learned in Personal Care 1, you will become skilled at assisting clients in meeting personal care needs. You will study grooming and dressing, foot and nail care, and elimination care.

Personal Care 1

You will have the opportunity to become skilled at assisting clients in meeting personal care needs. You will study infection control, body mechanics, bed making, positioning clients, range of motion, oral care, and assisting to feed clients.

Transferring Lifting Repositioning (TLR®) ©

You will participate in activities to move and position clients/objects in health care settings using minimal physical effort and maximizing the use of mechanical aids and equipment. The course focuses on client/caregiver safety. You will receive a Transferring Lifting Repositioning (TLR®) © certificate from Saskatchewan Association for Safe Workplaces in Health (SASWH) upon successfully completing the course.
