Bachelor of Science in Nursing

In the University of Saskatchewan (USask)'s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, you will learn all aspects of health and well-being across a person’s life span as you study nursing, health, and the healthcare system. You’ll gain knowledge through research, education and clinical practice. You’ll train on advanced technology used to provide nursing care to individuals, families, groups and communities. Your BSN education will prepare you to pass the NCLEX licensing exam and work in a variety of clinical nursing settings.

What You Will Learn

You will participate in theory courses, evidence-based research, and nursing practice in simulation, lab and clinical settings. The BSN program includes access to clinical practice opportunities in hospitals and community agencies, including:

  • Pediatrics and/or Obsetetrics
  • Mental Health
  • High Acuity - Medical and/or Surgical
  • Community Nursing

Application Process

1. Complete year one Pre-Professional courses.
2. Apply to the University of Saskatchewan College of Nursing and select "Great Plains College" as your campus of choice.
2. Once you have received your letter of acceptance from the University of Saskatchewan, you must also register for the Nursing program at Great Plains College online at greatplainscollege.ca/apply – there is no application fee to do this.
3. Once you have registered with the college, a student adviser at Great Plains College will contact you directly to make an appointment and discuss your academic plan and course schedule.

The College of Nursing offers both early and regular admission for the fall term intake. Applying for early admission gives students an opportunity to receive an admission decision and make arrangements, such as securing housing, earlier in the year.  Seats are competitive, and students must apply to USask College of Nursing by no later than the posted deadlines.

  • Early Admission Deadline: December 15, 2025
  • Regular Admission Deadline: March 31, 2026

Career Opportunities

Become a Registered Nurse (RN) and begin a rewarding career in healthcare. To become an RN, the following are required:

  • a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree (the outcome of our program)
  • clinical practice (included in the USask BSN program)
  • successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)
  • registration with a provincial regulatory body (College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)) in Saskatchewan
