Course Description
Confined Space is a series of courses that are divided into levels depending on the role and scope of the person’s employment. Please check the descriptions of the levels below prior to enrolling to ensure you will be receiving the level of certification that you require. Level IV certification is not available within our regular course offerings but can be booked on demand. Please indicate which level you require at the time of registration.
Confined Space Level I (Awareness)
This course is suitable for supervisors and those who will not be required to enter Confined Spaces but are still required to have the knowledge surrounding safe work practices and legislation for working in Confined Space environments. Students receive a manual and are required to successfully complete a written exam upon completion of the theory course. No practical components are included in the Level I course. Students receive a 3-year certificate upon successful completion.
Students registering for Confined Space courses found on our course calendar will be automatically registered for both Levels I & II. Please tell your instructor if you do not require Level II training and you will be dismissed after successful completion of the course and written exam (around 2 pm).
Confined Space Level II (Entry)
This course is suitable for workers who are required or may be required to enter Confined Spaces. Students must successfully complete the requirements for Level I, plus must complete practical components that take place in a Confined Space simulator at the conclusion of the Level I theory course. Students will be required to don and doff Supplied Air Breathing equipment and navigate through a dark simulator under supplied air. Students receive a 3-year certificate upon successful completion that includes certification for Level I as well. Students must bring and wear PPE to complete Level II, which includes coveralls, steel toed boots, hard hat, protective eyewear and leather gloves. *Please be advised that practical course components completed with our portable simulator are susceptible to weather conditions of the day, so please bring PPE that is suitable for the season and daily weather.
Confined Space Level III (Rescue Fundamentals)
This course is suitable for students who require basic, practical Confined Space Rescue Training in addition to Level II training. Students who wish to add this level of training to their Level II certification must indicate so at the time of registration. Level III students will complete Levels I & II components for the course; prior to completing an additional hour of practical training at the simulator site that focuses on basic Rescue techniques. Students will receive a comprehensive manual that includes information related to Levels I & II but also includes detailed theory behind Confined Space Rescue. Students who successfully complete all components of this course will receive 3-year certification*
*Students who already hold a valid Shamrock Training Confined Space Level II certificate can add on Level III at a later date. It is recommended that students have at least 2 years left on their Level II certification, as the addition of Level III to one’s certification will expire retroactively to the expiration on their Level II certificate.
