Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS)

This half day course covers the basics of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), providing workers with general knowledge and skills to work safely around hazardous materials. It covers worker education, workplace labelling and material safety data sheets (MSDS). A certificate is issued to each candidate upon successful completion of a written examination.

Defensive Driving

Making driving decisions to avoid collisions in spite of the actions of others and conditions around you is the foundational principle of Defensive Driving.

In this 5-hour course participants will learn and review techniques of Defensive Driving to give themselves a better understanding of the responsibility that comes with driving and sharing the road with others and how to apply them each time they are behind the wheel.

Confined Space is a series of courses that are divided into levels depending on the role and scope of the person’s employment.  Please check the descriptions of the levels below prior to enrolling to ensure you will be receiving the level of certification that you require.  Level IV certification is not available within our regular course offerings but can be booked on demand.  Please indicate which level you require at the time of registration.

Ground Disturbance - Levels 1 & 2 (Global)

This one-day course is the most widely recognized Ground Disturbance course by industry in Saskatchewan and Alberta and is considered the leader in the field of ground disturbance training. The course deals with the primary pitfalls which result in illegal and dangerous strikes. Students are trained in accordance with regulations of the Pipeline Act and Regulations with cross-reference to other legislation as applicable. Students receive both Saskatchewan and Alberta regulations. The course meets IRP#17 requirements.

    Describe designs, operating principles and major components of steam turbines
  2. Steam Turbine Auxiliaries & Operation
    Describe auxiliary support and control systems for steam turbines and explain start-up and shutdown procedures
  3. Turbine Condenser Systems
    Explain typical designs, components and operating principles of steam turbine condensers
  4. Gas Turbine Principles & Designs

Power Engineering Third Class - B1

  1. Watertube Boiler Designs
    Describe common designs, configurations and circulation patterns for modern bent-tube watertube boilers and steam generators and explain how boilers are rated
  2. Special Boiler Designs
    Describe the designs, components, firing methods, and operating considerations for some special boilers used in industry
  3. Boiler Construction
    Explain Code requirements, in general terms, and describe construction and assembly methods for the major components of a large boiler
  4. Boiler Heat Transfer Components

Power Engineering Third Class - A2

  1. Legislation & Codes for Power Engineers
    Explain the purpose of, general content of, and interaction with the legislation and codes that pertain to the design and operation of boilers and related equipment.
  2. Code Calculations – ASME Section 1
    Using the ASME Code, calculate the design thickness and pressure of boiler tubes, drums, and piping, and calculate the capacities of pressure relief valves
  3. Fuels, Combustion, Flue Gas Analysis

Power Engineering Third Class - A1

  1. Algebraic Operations, Logarithms & Problem Solving
    Solve problems using algebraic operations, including equations and logarithms
  2. Trigonometry
    Explain trigonometric concepts and solve problems involving trigonometry
  3. Mensuration
    Solve problems involving the areas of plane figures and the surface areas and volumes of three-dimensional objects
  4. Forces & Friction
    Explain concepts and solve problems involving vectors, force systems and friction
  5. Work, Power, Energy: Linear & Angular Motion
