Course Description

Participants in the Emergency Medical Responder course will learn and demonstrate all knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and on-going care, including the transportation of a patient to a healthcare facility.   Course content may vary depending on jurisdictional requirements and, in addition, follows the National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) as defined by the Paramedic Association of Canada.  Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations.

Those who will require EMR training will be professionals or those training to become professionals in emergency medical care who may be responsible for initial assessments, the provision of safe and prudent care, and the transport of a patient to the most appropriate healthcare facility.  Emergency Medical Responders can obtain employment as a Medic in private-sector medical services such as the oilfield, mining, and other sports and industrial medical applications as well as employment in the public-sector, serving their Health Region (upon successful application).

Course Content 

A review and augmentation of First Responder training and skills as well as training pertaining to:

  • Pharmacology
  • Marine environment
  • Workplace
    Includes any other content required by provincial legislation

As an EMR graduate, in order to practice professionally, you will need to write the EMR Licensing Exam with SCOP (Saskatchewan College of Paramedics) and provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector query.  Click this link for more licensing information with SCOP from their website. 

  • Cost:  $699 (includes tuition, manual, supplies & tax)
     
    Course Schedule:
    This is a 40 hour course, Dates To Be Determined
    Course to take place in early 2020.
    Students enrolling in Emergency Medical Responder will assist in setting the schedule for this course.
